Obituary

Joan Elaine Nelson, 68, passed away unexpectedly at Saint Anthony’s Hospital the morning of March 15th, 2023, with her two sons Eric and Derek, her only brother William (Bill), and sister-in-law Dawn by her side.

Joan was born on September 28th, 1954, to Willam & Betty MacKeeman at Mound Park Hospital and was a lifelong resident of St. Petersburg. Growing up in the Lakewood Estates area of South St. Pete, she attended Lakewood Elementary, Bay Point Junior High School, and Lakewood High School which she graduated from in 1972. She also attended St. Pete Junior College. As a teenager Joan worked at her family’s establishment, The Owl Restaurant, along with her brother Bill. She met her future husband there, Eric O Nelson III.

Joan is predeceased by her husband Eric who passed away in 2001. She is survived by her two sons Eric O Nelson IV and Derek William Nelson, her brother and his family Bill and Dawn MacKeeman, niece and nephew, Katherine and William, and his family. Additionally, is survived by her husband's sister Sharon and family, two aunts, Mabel and Shirley, her best friend and cousin, Judy, among many other family members.

A celebration of life will be held at a future date, details to be announced.

She is and will forever be missed by her family, friends, and colleagues.
